Principal Engineer - Analytics / Engineer - Analytics

Reporting to the President and CEO of MTU AENA, "The Principal Engineer Analytics" is responsible for performing all duties of a structures engineer. Plus, is responsible for the day-to-day functioning and quality of MTU AENA's structural analysis group of 6-10 engineers. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Serve as technical and managerial lead for the Structures group.
  • Day to day supervision, task assignment and mentoring of direct reports.

  • Background in structural mechanics with knowledge in computer systems and application software (ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN, PATRAN).
  • Strong team and communication skills.
  • Background in conceptual / detail design and experience with CAD systems is preferred but not required.

CNC Swiss Screw Machine Set Up / Programmer

Job Summary

This position Sets-up and operates CNC Swiss Screw Machines to produce highly precision component parts that meet all quality standards.

Essential Functions

• Working from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers or other specifications, set-ups and completes the machining operations to produce a quality part.
• Checks to make sure that the material to be used meets all specifications. Obtains bar stock or material from a staging area.
• Performs complex set-ups of own work or for others.
• Makes all required adjustments to the machinery. Obtains tooling, gages, inserts and all other equipment needed to complete the set-up and brings up the program. Edits the program as necessary.
• Assists other Operators or Set-up/Operators with set-up or production problems and helps to train other set-up/operators.
• Insures that all manufactured parts are in full compliance to quality standards. Performs visual inspections (part relationship to operation sheet/blueprint configuration) on all parts produced and performs actual dimensional verification using measuring instruments as per the guidelines established by the department or the Quality Assurance Department.
• Replaces all worn or damaged tooling as necessary.
• Verifies and records actual part count, both prior to and upon completion of all work.
• Performs all routine maintenance on the equipment and maintains all fluid levels. Keeps the equipment and work area clean and organized.
• Returns excess bar stock or material to the staging area.
• Moves the finished work to an assigned area.  Enters all work performed in the database and documents all scrap.  Will also notify lead person or supervisor of any parts shortages or machining problems/difficulties.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
• Must be able to read and write comments, understand operation sheets/blueprints, specifications, and all applicable Company/Customer paperwork.
• Must be able to read and edit CNC Programs.
• Five plus years of increasingly diverse experience with CNC Swiss Screw Machines in either a machine shop or CNC machining environment. Technical school training for CNC Machining a plus.

Test and Validation Engineer


Reporting to the Validation Manager, the Validation Engineer is responsible for the support of program management activities related to the Next Generation Product Family (NGPF) of engines. He/she supports the validation and certification of the engine, which includes definition of key learning points, definition of instrumentation requirements, engine assembly, test and teardown support. Ownership of special analytical issues, and preparation of project status review presentations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Support the testing, validation, development and certification of the NGPF engine program.

Coordinate the validation planning of test engines leading up to the start of development engine testing. On-site engine test support, and post-test involvement in assessing hardware condition. These activities involve coordination between the individual part teams.

The Validation Engineer is accountable for: all areas of testing that include instrumentation hookup/installation, the monitoring of testing activities, the evaluation of any issues that could affect the modules, engine, or the test program, and the inspection of hardware before, during and after testing.  Clear detailed reporting on all subjects directly to the validation manager.

Job Summary

Responsible for Quality both in-process and Final to the assigned program or area to ensure that the product is built in accordance with customer and division quality requirements.

Essential Functions

• Reviews all design drawings and changes, operation sheets, process procedures, test procedures, procurement documents, quality manuals, and inspection analyses to ensure that the divisions’ and customer’s quality requirements are met.
• Provides support to his or her assigned operation group including visual aids and inspection analyses and includes a key role in making “accept" or “reject" decisions.
• Provides support to the Engineering group on engineering product, to the Customer Service Department on the analysis of product returned from the field, and to the Purchasing group for procurement requirements.
• Reviews quality trends based on quality data system information and interaction with inspectors and production personnel, and participates in the generation and implementation of defect-reduction programs.
• Assists in identifying the root causes of a problem and instituting Corrective Action
• Evaluates discrepant product in accordance with quality requirements, and determines its disposition or referral to the Quality Clinic.
• Maintains Quality Records as required to assure compliance with all regulations.
• Implements new inspection tools and technology (such as CMM, vision systems, etc.)
• Interacts with representatives from all functional groups within the division.
• Provides recommendations to improve procedures that apply to quality and other functions
• Participates directly in Quality Clinic actions.
• May interact with customer and supplier representatives on quality issues.
• May perform source inspections and/or surveys, involving visits to a supplier's facility to evaluate adherence to the company's quality requirements for products or systems.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree (or 5 years of inspection experience) plus 2 to 3 years as a Quality Engineer or equivalent.
• Requires knowledge of the company quality system, as well as contractual quality requirements, which vary from customer to customer.
• Requires effective human relations skills to motivate others and convince them of the validity of solutions to problems.

• Completes Inspection Method Sheets and shop router paperwork.
• Refers to and enters database information.
• Performs hardness machine verifications.
• Interacts with associates from all departments.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, Associates degree a plus.
• Must be able to read and interpret complex blueprints and use a variety of Measuring and Test equipment.
• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills as well as strong analytical and shop math skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Three plus years experience in an aerospace or medical manufacturing environment. Skilled in the use of inspection gauging (micrometer, caliper, height stand, indicator, optical comparator, tri-roll type gauging, etc.).
• CMM Experience a plus.
• Must have working knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001, Quality Management System requirements.
• Need to possess a “Can Do” Positive Attitude in a very Fast Paced Manufacturing Environment.
